the ceremony

We chose a location for our wedding that is meaningful to us. We had one of our first dates there, and have visited MANY times since. We want to have our ceremony someplace close to nature and a waterfall, which both of us enjoy.

time and location

We're planning on having a short ceremony at Bridal Veil Falls in the Bedford Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks at 2:45 p.m.

Both space and parking are limited (and it's not too close to the reception hall), so we will probably just have immediate family join us there.

If you decide to take your chances in joining us, please help us make sure the wedding party has room to park and hold the ceremony!

We want you all to know that you are an important part of this day, so we plan to show a video of the ceremony at the reception. It won't be quite the same as being there in person, but might actually be preferable if it is rainy or muddy!

the wedding party

We're not exactly having a traditional wedding party (you will come to realize that we're not having an especially traditional wedding!). It is more a collection of our immediate family.

the reception

We would love for you to join us at the reception at Tom's Country Place in Avon, OH.

time and location

Dinner starting around 6:45 to 7:00 pm.
We'll end the reception around 11:45 pm.

music & dancing

We would love for everybody (or as many people as would like to do so) to join us for our first dance as a married couple.

For us, the dance will be much more special if we get to share it with you. We know not everybody is completely comfortable with freestyle dancing. That's why our invitations include some video instruction for basic swing dancing (except for those of you who already have a lot of recent experience with it).

We'll have the Time Trax Band playing after dinner, which should make the dancing even more enjoyable!  Check out their song list, which includes a great variety of music, including many songs that are good for partner dancing - including swing!

your opinion

Is there one song on Time Trax's list to which you would especially like to dance?  Any other songs you want to hear when the band is on break?

Would you like to learn a little bit of a ballroom/partner dance at the reception?  If so, which of these dances (cha cha, east coast swing, rumba, salsa, waltz) would you most like to learn?

We welcome you to email us with your suggestions!

fun things to do in the area

We're going to guess that most of you will be staying close to the reception hall in the Westlake or Avon areas, which are west of downtown Cleveland. We'll try to estimate driving times from Westlake to the attractions listed below. There are a lot of other fun things to do in the greater Cleveland area (south toward Akron, east toward Painseville, etc.) that I didn't list due to distance.

A Show of Hands is a tiny store nestled within the hulking Great Northern Mall. Despite its small size, you can find yourself lost inside so long that you forget where you parked ... again. The store's claim to fame is that it sells the wares of Ohioans, but this stuff is so unique and eye-catching--everything from pottery and jewelry to lawn ornaments and leather goods--the home state of its makers hardly matters. The Great Northern shop is one of four locations throughout Ohio, a good venue to find a gift for your co-worker, neighbor, aunt or any cat lady in your life. Although not terribly expensive, Hands isn't a clearinghouse for starving artists: There isn't one couch-sized seascape on the wall. So, if you're lookin' for something cheap and tasteless, better hit the smoked-meat store. If you want something purdy to look at (and to support local artists), this is a great place to catch a respite from the department store. You'll definitely make someone's favorite gift-giver list. Christianson first opened Atmosphere, located in Tremont, with his own private collection of artwork. After that collection sold well, he quickly had to develop new ways of obtaining and selling artwork. The underlying criterion for the work he brings into the gallery is uniqueness. He only considers portfolios that offer something unusual that he has never seen before. This varying aspect of Atmosphere's collection makes the gallery's shows all the more stimulating. SPACES is an internationally recognized non-profit, artist-run contemporary art gallery. Larger and longer-term exhibits are held in the main area. In addition, SPACELab provides a flexible, short-term installation space that encourages experimentation. It is especially useful for established artists to create a small, experimental project or as an outlet for younger artists who may not yet have a body of work but want to create a first-time installation.

Definitely an interesting experience. If you know you don't care for contemporary art, this isn't the museum for you. This museum gets lost in that limbo area halfway between a gallery and a museum. Located in a loft-like space in midtown, it displays expertly curated collections of work from up-and-coming, as well as nationally known, contemporary artists. MOCA offers a view of the current art world not always available in smaller cities. Tues through Sun: 11 am to 6 pm $4 25 to 30 minutes

This tiny room in an old schoolhouse welcomes most visitors to worlds never seen. Despite owner Carol Schoffmann's intimate setting, the gallery carries a scope unchallenged (and unattempted) by even the largest competitors. Adorning the racks and the shelves is a unique collection of jewelry, scarves, clothing, crafts and accessories from locations such as Nepal, China and Timor. The global mix includes handcrafted silver and beaded jewelry from Indonesia, India, Tibet and Afghanistan; hand-painted silk scarves from Nepal; Batik silk, chiffon and rayon from Indonesia; embroidered blankets and shawls from Bhutan; and Barong masks from Timor. Cooking classes and multi-media projects make frequent special appearances. Tues - Sat, 12 pm to 6 pm

    registry

At first, we weren't going to register for gifts.  We have a lot of the things we really need on a day-to-day basis, and they're still in serviceable condition.  But Mom pointed out that our friends and family would want to purchase gifts for us to show their love and that you would rather buy something we want or need than have to guess.

We also considered not putting our registry information on this page, but if you're going to the trouble of getting a gift for us anyway, it seems like we shouldn't make it a challenge for you to find out what we would like.

If you share our sentiments regarding one the charities/non-profit organizations listed below, a tribute donation to one of them would be a meaningful gift.

If you would prefer a more customary or tangible gift, we have registered at a few places for some items that will make our life together simpler or more beautiful.

    more traditional gifts

We have selected some items that we would like to have at Amazon; Lowes; and Bed, Bath & Beyond.
